Science and results
Scientific aspects linking the pilosebaceous unit and acne
The pilosebaceous unit consists of a fair follicle and its corresponding sebaceous gland and are most numerous on the face, chest and back.
Androgenic stimulation of the sebaceous gland triggers the production and secretion of sebum, a lipid-rich substance whose essential role is to lubricate and protect the skin surface. This gland drains into the follicular canal, which in turn empties into the skin pore. The follicular canal is therefore covered with keratin, sebum and bacterial flora.

Disease
Acne vulgaris is a common chronic skin disease caused by excess androgen production involving a sequence of different triggers. It is a polymorphic skin condition characterized by various types of lesions, such as comedones, papules, pustules, nodules, scars and hyperpigmentation. Acne may also have a social impact as it exacerbates social anxiety, which is already more prevalent during adolescence. As a result, it may have a detrimental effect on the quality of life and productivity of individuals affected by this condition.
Qualitative classification of acne according to predominant lesion types
- Grade 0. Pre-acne: follicular hyperkeratosis.
- Grade I. Comedonal acne: comedones and papules.
- Grade II. Papulopustular acne: papules and pustules.
- Grade III. Pustulonodular acne: pustules and nodules.
- Grade IV. Nodulocystic acne: nodules, cysts and scars.
acnelan method
Multifactorial control of acne-prone and seborrheic skin
For effective, rapid and convenient control of acne-prone and moderate seborrheic skin, mesoestetic presents acnelan. It offers a cross-cutting approach to address the various factors that trigger the disease, combining an intensive clinical treatment for professional use with a home maintenance treatment and offering a complete line of products.
Professional care
Clinical treatment
Clinical treatment involves application of the products included in the acnelan pack. It contains the quantities of product required to perform 3 treatment sessions at 15 to 21-day intervals, according to the specialist's recommendation and depending on the sensitivity and capacity of the treated skin to recover. Subject to the medical professional’s approval, 2 complete clinical treatment programs per year are recommended (with a minimum of 4-5 months between programs).
Home care
Home maintenance
Given the etiology of acne-prone and seborrheic skin and its physical and emotional impact, perseverance through treatment is extremely important. The line of home care products has been specifically designed as a convenient and effective way of maintaining the effects of the intensive clinical treatment.
- Cleansing & purifying with purifying mousse.
- Treatment cream acne one.
- Focal treatment with imperfection control.
- Intensive treatment with pure renewing mask.
Cross-cutting approach with m.acne complex™
Patients with acne have a clear unmet need; the hormonal origin and multifactorial etiology of this disease hinder optimal control of its signs and symptoms.
Current medical practice recommends early treatment in order to prevent the appearance of symptoms and permanent damage caused by this disease while boosting patients’ self-esteem. A multifocal approach and consistent treatment of acne are also considered essential for treatment success.
At the heart of the product line’s formulation lies the innovative m.acne complex™, a unique combination of active ingredients selected specifically for their complementary ability to address the various factors that trigger acne-prone and seborrheic skin. The formula contains salicylic acid, mandelic acid and sodium lepargilate, which when combined with exclusive bexaretinyl complex have a unique synergistic action that produces deep cleansing and comprehensive renewal of acne-prone and seborrheic skin.
Advantages of acnelan
- 5-α reductase inhibition. This reduces levels of DHT, allowing better prevention and control of androgen excess.
- Unblocking of the pilosebaceous canal. This encourages keratolysis of abnormally thick stratum corneum and unblocks skin pores.
- Decrease in sebum production. This slows down the secretory activity of sebaceous glands.
- Control of bacterial proliferation. This inhibits the growth and reproduction of the strains making up the skin flora, which may infect blocked pilosebaceous canals.
- Less redness and epidermal swelling. This reduces and soothes the intensity of the inflammatory process of acne outbreaks.
- Lightening of post-acne hyperpigmentation. This improves the appearance of hyperpigmented areas of skin after an acne outbreak.
