Facial sagging is one of the main visible signs of ageing, affecting our skin as the years march on. Read on to find out all about it and how to treat a saggy face.

What is a sagging face?

Facial sagging means a loss of firmness of the facial skin, which is caused by the reduction of fibres such as elastin and collagen, which are the substances that give your skin elasticity and firmness. The loss of elastin reduces the elasticity of the skin, which in turn causes a loss of definition in the face and the facial contour.

Signs of sagging are mainly noticeable in areas such as the upper eyelids, the chin area, and on the cheeks, and they result in a loss of facial definition.

Fortunately, there are measures you can take right now to fight back!

Options to prevent a saggy skin

Although ageing is inevitable, there are some general rules we can follow to preserve, and naturally produce more of, collagen and elastin in our skin.

  1. Use SPF

Just applying a broad spectrum of solar protection each and every day of the year helps to protect your skin from solar radiation and to conserve the natural collagen produced.

  1. Avoid drastic changes in body weight

With weight gain, the skin stretches, which can then cause flaccidity in the face when we lose those extra kilos.

  1. Adopt a healthy diet which is rich in fibres, nutrients and vitamins

This is particularly true for vitamin C, which is an essential part of the synthesis of genes, so a healthy dose of this vitamin helps to support the production of proteins.

  1. Drink two litres of water daily

Hydration is key, so don't forget to prioritise water consumption, while avoiding alcohol consumption.

How to treat a sagging face?

There are numerous treatments that help to combat facial sagging. One of the most requested treatments is hyaluronic acid filler, which must be administered by a physician and which is an effective solution when recovering volume in certain areas of the face. Other treatments, such as mesotherapy, can also be highly effective due to the combination of mechanical stimulation (using a needle) and the active ingredients used to increase the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

However, there are also some effective topical treatments to treat flaccidity that can be performed in aesthetic or medical-aesthetic centres.

The professional age element® treatment is the 100% personalised cabin treatment that treats the skin's lack of firmness and provides a lifting effect, with visible results from the first session. The treatment uses the [meso]epigen system, a patented epigene action formula that activates the youth protein (SIRT1) and increases the release of structural genes such as hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin.

If you're looking to boost the results of your treatment at the centre, we recommend that you also use products to target flaccidity at home:

The products in the age element® firming solutions range have been designed to treat facial flabbiness in a specific way. The combination of restructuring peptides, tensing phytoactive peptides, and the epigen system work together to stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin, restoring elasticity to the skin and redefining the shape of the face.

  • age element® firming cream is the cream for treating flaccidity on the face. It provides smoothness and elasticity while redefining the facial oval.
